Art of managing young team

With the experience I have gained all these days working with different experience level of team, I am amazed the way the young team of freshers are learning and working together. They are sharp minded with fresh ideas and attitudes to contribute towards the development of product.

Managing such team is entirely different. One should come out of their traditional and factory model of managing the team to be successful and to get the deliveries on time. At the same time keeping the team happy is the challenge. 

There are lot of ways to handle a team of young people. They deserve self-respect, flexible working hours, opportunities to learn, possibilities to prove and demonstrate their ideas and most importantly, have trust on their ability.

There are few key points that managers should keep in their mind to be successful in managing a young team.

  • Build trust on their career growth
  • Mentor
  • Provide opportunities
  • Keep the environment active
  • Spend time with team
  • Understand their needs
  • Appreciate their contribution
  • Help to solve their official problems
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Identify leadership
  • Treat them equally
  • Be transparent on work activities
  • Identify their strength and weakness
  • Protect them from other influence
  • Monitor the office politics
